On April 26, 2024, Mr. Kriengkrai Thiennukul, Chairman of the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), together with FTI executives, attended Meeting No. 1/2024 with the Thailand Science Research and Innovation (TSRI) under the theme “Enhancing the Competitiveness of the Thai Industrial Sector through Science, Research and Innovation” at Phayathai 1 Room, 6th Floor, Eastin Grand Hotel Phayathai, Bangkok.
TSRI serves as the country’s central agency responsible for promoting, supporting, and driving the national science, research, and innovation system in all dimensions to ensure balanced and sustainable national development. At present, the Thai industrial sector is facing several major challenges, particularly rapid technological changes. As a result, the industrial sector must transform its business operations toward leveraging innovation to further develop products and services with higher added value.
From the discussion, the meeting agreed that it is now necessary for Thailand to upgrade its industrial sector from First Industries to Next-Gen Industries. Therefore, a resolution was adopted to establish a joint committee between TSRI and FTI to define research and innovation agendas and supporting budgets by utilizing the mechanisms of the Science, Research and Innovation System (STI) for each target industry group, such as driving the Smart Agricultural Industry (SAI) initiative.
The outcomes of these projects must be measurable and lead to the upgrading of research toward commercial applications in the future.
